History
The idea of MARY'D began during a family ancestry journey by founder, Zaheera Hemphill in 2017. The Wiley name was deep seeded in Buffalo, NY beginning with Ramsey's Beauty Salon, where most Wiley women were employed. An ice cream parlor, bowling alley, fish market, and their involvement in the community and politics were added businesses spread throughout Western New York.
During the exploration of the Wiley lineage, Zaheera, found some surprising information. Mary Wiley, known as "Big Ma" to all 11 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren had an interesting story with a woman also named Mary in Alabama. You see, "Big Ma's" surname was Mary Stewart. She had a childhood friend Mary Wiley while living in Alabama. At some point both Mary made a decision to marry one another's brothers. Mary Stewart became Mary Wiley and Mary Wiley became Mary Stewart. Mary Wiley eventually migrated to Buffalo, NY with her 11 children; Mary Stewart's family, to Panama City, Florida.
The two families remain close to this day. In establishing the business legacy, Zaheera decided to name the business "MARY'D" to encompass both the first names of the families' matriarchs (Mary) and their commitment to marriage. Providing bonds is cornerstone to the Wiley/Stewart family. What better way to continue that legacy than to inspire women and families through positive events.
